The recent anniversary of the birth of Luke Howard had me thinking of Luke and his son, John Eliot Howard. I was reminded of their resignation from the Society of Friends to become members of the Tottenham Brethren. In the way that the internet comes up with all sorts of links I came across the book ‘From Friends to Brethren’ – the Howards of Tottenham, Quakers, Brethren and Evangelicals by Gerald T West published in 2016.
A fascinating read, alternating chapters about family history and theology. Appendix II was particularly interesting with a list of Howard family members who resigned from the SOF 1836-1840.
Available secondhand online.
