The origins of the place as the residence for the Medical Superintendent reflect the
important evolution of the Asylum to a full hospital facility, the Rookwood (then Lidcombe)
State Hospital. It is also particularly associated with its first occupant, the Doctor Robert
Algernon Fox the first and most notable Resident Medical Superintendent.
