The origins of the place as the residence for the Medical Superintendent reflect the
important evolution of the Asylum to a full hospital facility, the Rookwood (then Lidcombe)
State Hospital. It is also particularly associated with its first occupant, the Doctor Robert
Algernon Fox the first and most notable Resident Medical Superintendent.

  1. Robert Algernon Fox, Dr, MB, CM. His wife was also a doctor, she was in the second group of women to graduate in the Faculty of Medicine and was a Bachelor of Medicine and Master of Surgery.
    In WWI, Robert was a captain in the Australian Medical Corps. He was buried in Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney in 1945.
